Favourite book this month: Grounded
After reading this book, I’ll never look at soil the same way again…
Native Seed Collection
It’s a lovely idea to think that if you find and fall in love with a magnificent tree - that you can be instrumental in helping that species gene pool continue on - through seed collecting and propagation.
Nature-positive death
A factual and scientific article written by Wedgetail about Walawaani Way… a great read!
Should I Shroud?
Insights from a recent Shroud Making workshop were incredibly exciting – and have started to reshape how we will do death better at Walawaani Way.
Nesting Boxes & Tree Planting
The fabulous men at Woody’s Men Shed located in Bodalla hand-crafted our first Nesting Boxes! Different sizes for different birds and mammals including the Australian Owlet-Night Jar, Crimson Rosella, Eastern Rosella, Ringtail Possum, Kookaburra and Glossy Black Cockatoos. Hopefully they find these ideal nesting boxes… we’ll wait and see!
Talks in the community
Fiona and Olivia Andrews were invited to talk at the Yila Healing Festival - about natural burial and Walawaani Way. It was located in the beautiful Cambewarra Cemetery in the Shoalhaven Council. It was a good turnout and we spoke about the growing movement of natural burial cemeteries around the world and the services around them. There were lots of questions which was great as it’s a new topic for many people.
A Focus on Habitat
Walawaani Way is focusing efforts to provide much needed habitat for a variety of native animals including the Glossy Black Cockatoo & the ground dwelling and very talented Lyre Bird.
And so - it begins!
The first building works have Begun! It’s been a long road of approvals, so finally seeing some physical work happening has been a relief and a huge milestone. As part of the DA, one of the conditions of the DA is the upgrade of the Princes Highway.
